We each gotten ourselves a main and ordered the Sauteed Boston Bay Blue Mussel ($18) for sharing. Cooked in white wine, the mussels were all fresh, big, fat, plump and succulent. It’s a dish that is either done right or wrong. Mussels itself were really good, but if the sauce is more pronounced with white wine, garlic, onion and a tinge of spiciness from chilli padi, it will be perfect.
I’ve ordered the Beef Cheeks Bourguignon ($26). It was so well braised and flavorful with the meat falling apart easily. There’s a nice sweet mellowed red wine taste to it, and it blends in very well with the savoriness of the dish. The mash was really smooth and creamy.
I was a little hesitant to order Grilled Australian Pork Jowl ($23) as some of the other places have it quite fatty but the one in Perch was good. It was not fatty and instead very tender. It goes very well with the apple based sauce. A little sourish and sweet, at the same time retaining the moistness of the pork jowl.
Another caught me by surprise dish was their Grilled Beef Ribeye With Black Pepper Sauce ($25). This dish gives a very japanese homely warmth, especially when it comes with a bowl of rice topped with sesame seeds. The ribeye was done to about medium with some pinkish-ness to it. Ribeye itself was only marinated slightly, retaining its original flavors. Bulk of the flavors came from the black pepper sauce. And look at that beautiful sunny side up, love how the yolk still remains runny!
All in all, I’m pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of food Perch has served! Wish to be back one day to try their Duck Confit! It was sold out on the day we went. Not only that, their staffs were really friendly and forthcoming in their recommendations! It was really an enjoyable dining experience.
