Nestled in the CBD area, Lecoq has their focus around chicken dishes and a play of japanese options such as chirashi, raw oysters, uni etc. With an experimental approach in offering a variety of delectable sides, mains and sharing platters, they have provided a decent amount of good options to the customers. Check out their full menu here.
Since Father’s Day is just around the corner, they actually had a couple of set deals to celebrate Father’s Day. We had Set A priced at $48++ which includes one Main and 2 sides. Note that the prices indicated below are all ala-carte prices. We decided to go for their Cold Sea Urchin Somen with Caviar (which requires a top up of $15), Truffle Fries and Chicken Gyoza.
I would say they have done a simple common dish of Truffle Fries ($8) well. Checked for both truffle aroma & taste, crispy texture with warm soft mash and not forgetting the fragrance from the grated parmesan cheese. Nothing much to complain about.
Next up was their Chicken Gyoza ($8) where they were rather generous with their fillings. Fried to perfect golden yellow, not too oily yet meaty and the fillings were a little on the juicier side. Not too bad!
Finally comes the highlight, Cold Sea Urchin Somen with Caviar ($19)! By now you could tell their portion is really decent and worth the buck. This portion is for 2 but i would say, it’s in fact perfect for 3! If you are ordering ala carte, do expect less! They never stinge on their ingredients. The whole dish was filled with umami and truffle flavors with generous amount of uni and hotate. It does get a little too overwhelming towards the end as the somen starts to lump together a little and the truffle scent starts to get a little stronger. But other than that, the uni and hotate were pretty fresh; the uni was so creamy and rich; and I love how the somen was really served chilled cold!
Ambiance at Lecoq is pretty chill and rather welcoming, perfect as a place which serve undoubtedly good selections of food too.
