We wanted to go Wimbly Lu for desserts, but it was full house! So we decided to head for late night desserts at Oblong at Serangoon Gardens vicinity. Its opposite MyVillage. The place has the smokey feel but rest assure it doest smell of smokes or anything bad along that line. Probably the only thing you might smell, is scent of waffles! Skullhead, electric feel of the whole place.
Look at the wide choices of ice cream’s flavours available! Quite a number of pretty unique flavours, spoilt for choice! Oblong is so far the only place i know that has red velvet waffles! Even their waffles and lava cakes are pretty special too. They have waffle type like buttermilk, charcoal bamboo and lava cake like blackforest on top of the usual molten chocolate lava!
Besides ala carte, they do have like a set meal which consist of a dessert and choice of your drink. Set price varies according to your dessert choice like from waffle with a single scoop of ice cream or double scoop to lava cake and such.
Since they are famous for their red velvet waffle, we decided to get one red velvet with double scoop of ice-cream. Ps: Went on 2 separate occasions, so that explains why there’s 2 red velvet waffles. So the first time i went, we order red velvet waffle with Strawberry cheesecake and Banana about Nutella. It was pretty funny, we didnt know what flavours to get, so we decided to choose from the ones that looks pretty empty, as our hypothesis is “it’s pretty empty, it should be good right?!!” But of course, before we get, we did try also, and it’s really good actually. Generally the ice cream are thick, rich, smooth, not those icy and airy kind. The mouthfeel is definitely there! For the strawberry cheesecake, its sourish with bits of strawberries, banana about nutella is another doesnt go wrong combination. chocolate with tinge of banana taste. Matcha flavour has abit of astringent aftertaste. Waffles are crispy, light and fluffy. I’ve also decided to try their blackforest lava cake on the second occasion as i thought it was pretty interesting. Its definitely not the typical molten flowy chocolate lava you see outside, instead of filling it with molten chocolate, it is filled with blackforest berries & thick syrup, sourish and piping hot. The cake has a tad of crisp on the outer and beneath that crisp is moist and dense. Not too bad i would say. And of course i’ve paired the lava cake with earl grey lavender ice cream! light, refreshing with trails of tea taste. In my opinions, i guess its worth a try.
